Vatican In Shock As 1,500-Year-Old Bible Claims Jesus Wasn’t Crucified
An approximately 1,500-2,000-year-old Bible found in Turkey has left the Vatican in shock because it allegedly confirms that Jesus Christ wasn’t crucified as has come to be widely believed. The Bible, which was discovered in 2000 and kept in secret in Ankara’s Ethnography Museum, contains the gospel of Jesus’ disciple Barnabas.
The gospel claims that Christ was neither crucified nor was he God’s son. Instead, it says he was just a prophet. The book also refers to Apostle Paul as “The Impostor” and further claims that Christ ascended back to heaven alive, with Judas Iscariot being crucified in his place.
The now controversial book was recovered during an operation in the Mediterranean-area as authorities went against a gang that smuggles antiquities and illegal explosives, says a report by The National Turk. The old book is currently valued at a whopping 40 million Turkish Liras, approximately $28 million.
Experts and religious bodies have examined the book and agree that it’s an original piece. It’s clearly written in gold lettering in Aramaic, the language of Jesus Christ. It contains teachings that agree with Islam, contradicting the New Testament of the Bible. In the book, Jesus foretells the birth of Prophet Muhammad, the one who founded Islam 700 years later.
Truth be told, there have been some murmurs surrounding the authenticity of the Bible we’re using today. There is a clique that believes that, during the Council of Nicea, the Catholic Church picked the canonical gospel books such as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, deliberately choosing to omit the book of Barnabas, possibly because of its position on Jesus Christ.
Although several Bibles have surfaced over the recent past, including the Dead Sea and Gnostic Gospel, this latest one appears to be a big worry to the Vatican, especially because of its claims about Jesus.
What does the discovery mean for today’s Christian? It, no doubt, brings to question the authenticity of the Christian gospel.
Worried that it might shake the Christian faith, the Vatican has requested Turkish authorities to allow them to examine the book’s contents. Although the discovery isn’t expected to have a massive impact on the belief of the billions of Christians across the globe, it’s likely to weaken the Christian leadership, especially that of the Vatican.
The fact that the book doesn’t originate with Muslims also puts the Vatican on a tight rope. Should they find out that the piece is authentic, it will result in a complete transformation of the Catholic faith

That he might not have been crucified is a possibility, and if he was crucified it's very likely he wasn't dead when they took him down because rabbis may not handle dead beings on the sabbath. and it was the sabbath! ReplyDeleteEach Gospel is the testament of a particular community, and there were many Gospels in the first two centuries, as there were many communities, each with its own versions of the Jesus story. There are significant differences even in the four Gospels of the New Testament. The fact that this one is old, and that it is in Aramaic, and that it states one of the Gnostic teachings, that Christ could not have died because God cannot be crucified, does not make it any more or less "authentic." They are all stories, which were used for teaching and celebrating faith, not for "evidence" of historical events.

What this article leaves out, a key factor, is our current Canonized version of the Bible predates this so called shocking find by 2 centuries. This is nothing more than more Apocrypha, which by the way also has all sorts of claims similar to this one. Have you read the Dead Sea Scrolls? Any of them? How about the Nag Hamadi Library? I've read all of the translated books from the Nag Hamadi Library . And there are claims about Jesus easily as "shocking" as these. And by the way just "who" at that Vatican is "shocked" by this? Who there did you speak to? Interview? Who's vetted this article? St Ignatius bishop of Antioch, Epistle to the Smyrneanes ch 1, AD 107: "I Glorify God, even Jesus Christ, who has given you such wisdom. If you want Non Christian sources, look at Tacitus the Roman historian in his Annals 15.44, written between AD 14 - 68.: "Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus..." Josephus also references Christ, but the quotation which mentions His Crucifixion specifically is questioned by scholars. Another quote (antiquities XX.9) addresses His existence, but does not address His Crucifixion. The Latin Vulgate (translation by St Jerome) is most probably even older than this "Bible" which was found, and is the same as the Catholic Bible today.

I don't believe this book tells the truth, There is too much historical evidence that Jesus died on the Cross for our sins, and is the Christ, the Son of God. Also It is witnessed by the Disciples of Jesus all the incredible miracles He performed. Also Jesus died and rose in 3 days, as witnessed by countless people.Barnabas is totaly at a loss in His writings, and fictitous.

ReplyDeleteThere isn't a reputable historian on earth who doesn't acknowledge that Jesus lived and was crucified, because there are so many 3rd party reports that it is so. The Jewish historian Josephus, the Roman historian Tacitus etc corroborate this much. This document may be 'authentic' in that it was written quite early, but it contradicts the many other historical documents we have. It was written by an early sect, no doubt, just like the Gnostic Gospel

The Vatican has always maintained that it, not the bible, is the sole authority on what is and is not true w.r.t. Christianity and the story of Christ. And I think that that is true. I think that they made a substantial portion of the story up themselves; and probably most of the rest was made up by priests and others who sought to influence others in order to exert control and gain advantage. Who cares about the 'historiocity' of these pieces of fiction?

Sir. Your name is on this article regarding the book of Barnabas. Either Christ did exist as this alleged book states, or He did not. If He did not, as you are staying, then any factual claim of the Book of Barnabas is unreliable. If you are presenting the book as factual information, then you contradict yourself by saying Christ never existed.

ReplyDeleteThere are a ton of apocryphal ancient books floating around from which the extant Bible was curated, representing a huge array of contrasting views. This is all widely known by even the most casual Biblical scholar. Nothing here the Vatican would feel shocked nor threatened by. For the record, I’m a Buddhist so have no dog in this fight, but this article vastly distorts the significance of the manuscript in question.
